The draws for the one day sports gala that is set to take place on Sunday 12th October 2019 at Mandala National Stadium Namboole has been held at the stadium boardroom on Thursday afternoon and the interesting part of the draw is; the all Christian based media Houses (television stations) fell in the same group which is Group B.
Among the 30 media houses that confirmed their participation in fun’s day out for media personnel, there are seven Christian based media, three are radios and the four are televisions but the TVs found themselves in the same group.
There are six groups [for Football competition], each with five teams but group B has Gugudde TV, Dream TV, Kingdom media and Top Media, Daily Monitor fell in as the old man out who might be ‘baptized’ to change the faith.
There is not only Football, but the gala will also have Athletics and Netball competitions. Netball will be played in round robin format while athletics there will feature sprints, and relays (100m, 4x100m Men, 4x100m Women, 4x100m mixed relay).
According to organisers, the participants must come from the respective media houses In competition, no machineries will be allowed.
However, the general public is free to come and watch their favourite presenters, writers and editors playing and the entrance will be free from 8am on Sunday until late.
“This is the first of its kind because we spend much of our time on desk, reporting stories from different fields and we get no time to get fun, interact with our fellow journalists from different media Houses and even our listeners, viewers and readers. So we decided to have this as our fun day out with our fans and it will be annual” said Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) president Patrick Kanyomozi after the draws.
There will also be two planned friendly games between UCC and Uganda Media Owners Association (UMOA), then the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) and Uganda Advertiser’s Association (UAA).
