Uganda Christian University vs St Lawrence University

Consistency and persistence booked St Lawrence University a maiden final of the eighth edition of University football league with Uganda Christian University that is slated to take part on 3rd November 2019 at Mandela National stadium Namboole.

To reach on this Glory, Davis Nono Ssozi coached side eliminated the 2017 champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) on penalty shootouts (3-2) following a one all draw in normal time of second leg game enjoyed by many at Nkozi playground on Friday afternoon.

Like Coach Davis Nnono asserted in the prematch press briefing held at Kati Kati Restaurant Lugogo yesterday that his side has never failed to score in the game for the last two editions, again, only 15 minutes into the tense encounter were enough for Ssemugera Missi to head in the well swung in freekick by Sseruwu Collins to give the visitors an early advantage over the hosts (UMU) on their 26th Anniversary celebration day.

Musa Gita, St Lawrence’s shot stopper tried to keep his side in the lead with classic saves but he finally surrendered in the 55th minute, following Kayondo Derrick’s spectacular header that leveled the matters at 2-2 goal aggregate.

The game did not see any other goal until the penalty shootout time, where hosts managed only to net two and the visitors put three past the UMU goalie to book their first ever UFL final.

This has been the second consecutive time when St Lawrence University reach Semifinal and last year they were Eliminated by the 2018 finalists Kampala University but their consistency and persistence saw them escaping that huddle.

Contrary to seventh edition, where the final had a previous champion in Kampala University (won 2013 and 2016), this eighth edition will see only fresh blood on podium.

St Lawrence University and Uganda Christian University, this is there first time ever to be on final.
